The Seraph and Her Wolf: Chapter 1

The Council of Seraphs was meeting to decide the future of their planet and the next generation.

Planet E6 was dying as they spoke. Excessive human intervention had corroded the planet's natural defenses.

Natural resources had remained unreplenished due to human greed for over a century.

The Seraphs had survived as long as they could by conserving and utilizing the remaining resources. They had sought alternatives to traditional fuels and minerals, making use of sunlight, air, water currents, and certain gases released due to human inventions.

If this continued, the next generation would not survive beyond the age of ten.

The Seraphs were the result of human experimentation—highly advanced beings capable of controlling the natural elements of fire, water, air, earth, and lightning through thought, physical movements, and gestures.

Project Seraph was originally launched to create super soldiers for an ongoing war fifteen centuries ago. However, after the war ended, the nation of Deleo, which had commissioned these superhumans, ordered their destruction.

Marlene Auras was the one who intercepted the order and warned her fellow soldiers who had been transformed into Seraphs.

Most of them managed to escape their execution and reached a rendezvous point. They collectively decided to remain hidden from all nations until the search for them was abandoned.

Three years later, when the nations ceased their hunt, believing the Seraphs to be dead, they resurfaced and established a society of their own. They adopted the name of their project and called themselves Seraphs.

They chose this name because 'Seraph' translates to 'Fallen Angel' and their altered appearance set them apart from normal humans.

Each Seraph's elemental affinity was reflected in their eyes: crimson signified control over fire, azure blue for water, glacial white for air, golden brown or emerald green for earth and plant life, and obsidian black for lightning.

For three centuries, they remained undetected. However, as technology advanced, their existence was discovered. Future generations were hunted down and killed by humans who failed to understand them.

The persecution did not stop at extermination. Survivors were captured and subjected to further experimentation. However, when some of these captured Seraphs escaped, they discovered new abilities.

They had gained mind control and manipulation abilities but lost their elemental powers. Those who developed these abilities underwent physical transformation, becoming a distinct category of Seraphs. They were collectively named Lobos, meaning 'wolves' in Spanish, as they could shift into wolf-like forms.

The mind controllers among them patrolled the forests, using their abilities to create illusions of death to keep intruders at bay. Over the next three centuries, they lived in secrecy, digging underground and establishing a hidden sanctuary beneath the very forest that had sheltered them.

Meanwhile, humankind continued to exploit the planet's resources without foresight or restraint. The air became heavily polluted with toxic chemicals. Water sources were contaminated, and the oceans were poisoned by war debris, chemical waste, and sewage, causing marine life to perish.

The land was stripped of minerals and oil, rendering the soil infertile. No crops could grow.

The planet had no more than fifteen years left.

"We must leave. Our planet is becoming uninhabitable, and she herself is dying." Elder Mart declared.

"Even if we must, where shall we go? No planet in our galaxy is habitable. We have sent teams after teams to search for suitable worlds." Elder Meera replied.

"We will take all our people—men, women, and children—and leave. We will journey across the universe. We all know our ships are capable of such travel." Elder Mart insisted.

The other five elders nodded in agreement.

Elder Mart and his tribe of twenty were the last of the Flame Seraphs. Elder Meera and her twenty followers were the last of the Aqua Seraphs. Elder Maxillius and his twenty-five were the only surviving Aero Seraphs. Elder Zara and her twenty-five were the last of the Geo Seraphs. Elder Augusta and her twenty were the sole remaining Storm Seraphs. Elder Michael and his forty were the only Lobos left.

Many had perished while hunting, while others succumbed to starvation or diseases so severe that even their superhuman immunity could not protect them.

The Council, foreseeing the devastation caused by human greed, had dedicated centuries to constructing ships capable of using any mineral, liquid, or gas as fuel. These ships were designed to be invisible both in flight and in space.

They decided to leave their home within a week, paying one final tribute to the planet that had sheltered them—the head of the ruler who had failed it.

Gathering their people, the elders boarded the ships and flew to the palace of the negligent ruler. Upon arrival, they hovered over the godforsaken palace and bombed it, using both their elemental powers and stolen human weaponry, along with armaments of their own creation.

With their final act of retribution complete, they departed their dying planet, leaving it behind forever.
